GypsyFire While GypsyFire's major inspiration lies in gypsy music (French Latin and Spanish), they have a decidedly contemporary feel and fire up their music with their own expressive 'je ne sais quoi'
Hypnotic rhythms and beautifully expressive themes, the repertoire features standards from the greatest composers of the 20th century. These include Duke Ellington, Fats Waller, Cole Porter, Jerone Kern, George Gershwin and of course the great gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt to name a few.
Their overall package has a unique sound and look and offers vibrancy and romance giving any event the ambiance associated with the café bars/ restaurants across Europe, particularly Spain and France. GypsyFire have enthralled enthusiastic audiences at a variety of venues throughout the world including the South Beach Jazz Festival (California), The International Gypsy Guitar festival (UK) Sinti PI Festival (Holland) and have performed for Royalty in the UK, United Arab Emirates and Monaco. Stuart and Ben love to improvise with there music and with life in general, they are always searching for new audiences that can fall in love with there music for the first time and their biggest thrill is to make any event that they perform atan unforgettable experience. Gypsyfire are equally at home playing as an acoustic duo (2 Guitars) in a candlelit restaurant as when they are playing as a Quintet (3 Guitars, Violin, Double Bass) at larger events and festivals. The size of the band can be altered dependant upon size of venue and budget. The duo/trio (add double bass for the trio) is perfectly adequate for all but the largest of events and delivers a beautifully rich and warm sound coveted by all there contemporaries. Clients Princess Anne, Microsoft, Matt Le Blanc, Hank Marvin, La Tasca, Pizza Express, QM Group, Long Beach Jazz festival (California), Don Randy (Elvis Presley Band), R.E.M. GypsyFire Stuart Carter-Smith (Solo Guitar) Stuart started playing the guitar when he was 18 years old - rather late for a gypsy guitarist considering most of his peers were playing by the age of 7! Although he played, studied and performed classical guitar at first he quickly fell in love with the music of the guitar genius Django Reinhardt. Most of all he learned was by listening to the records of his newly found hero, Django. like many of his contemporaries, Stuart loves to improvise, and like many of his predecessors, he is searching for new challenges. He likes to try new ways of playing, but always with the solid underpinning of his first love: the music of Django Reinhardt. Ben Travers (Guitar) Ben was introduced to the guitar at an early age by his father who was classically trained. His influences could not be more diverse including Preston Reed, Andy Timmons and Steve Lukather to name a few. He attended the ACM in 2000 and later graduated acheiving a higher diploma in guitar. Ben's constant drive for new challenges led him to the music of Django Reinhardt .
