The Portrait Trio

Brought together as sidemen for local players, the Portrait Trio began writing and rehearsing and soon discovered a mutual passion for the music they play today. Between them they have played at The Royal Albert Hall, Glastonbury, The Larmer Tree, Bournemouth International Centre and many more prestigeous venues as well as appearing on albums with different artists. go to main pic

THE BAND
Mike Relf found his love for the guitar at age 12 and under the supervision of session players and top musicians alike, his study offered formal full-time training in composition, arrangement and production as well as enhanced performance skills as a guitarist, singer and drummer. Now a performer, teacher and family man he continues to his study of Jazz guitar styles.

Playing the drums since the age 17, Neil quickly found himself in at the deep end playing with many good musicians around the area, experiencing all sorts of different styles, ranging from Jazz through to pop. Amongst other projects, Neil has been playing regularly over the last 10 years with a group called "The Huckleberries" and has recorded 3 albums. Live performances have included, Glastonbury Music festival, Larmer Tree music festival, and recently The Royal Albert Hall in london.

Originally from Spain, Ismael came to England in the summer of 1996. Ismael picked up the guitar at 22 years old, and later, whilst living in England he undertook BTEC and HND courses in popular music and fell in love with the bass. He concentrated fully on this instrument soon after joining "The Huckleberries" in the summer of 2003, and a couple of years later he started learning the double bass. Now continuing further study under the Berklee distance learning courses.

THE MUSIC
The Portrait Trio play jazz standards from the 30's right up to today in styles from Straight ahead 'Post-Bop' jazz through 'Latin', 'Swing' and some 'Beebop'. Songs in their repertoire include classic jazz tunes either written or performed by the likes of Miles Davis, Jerome Kern, Charlie Parker, Wes Montgomery, John Coltrane, Pat Metheny, Tal Farlow and more. The current set (although constantly under revision for improvement) includes; Agua De Bebe, All Blues, All The Things You Are, Blue Bossa, Dearly Beloved, Four On Six, My Funny Valentine, Stompin' At The Savoy, Sunny, There Is No Greater Love, West Coast Blues and much more, many of which have been used for adverts and marketing as well as being much loved jazz standards."
